EN 17460 certification for adhesive bonding in rail applications
Artex Denmark has successfully achieved EN 17460 Class A3 certification, strengthening the company’s capabilities as a qualified supplier to the European railway industry.
The certification provides independent verification that Artex Denmark’s adhesive bonding activities meet the requirements of the European railway standard EN 17460 within its certified Class A3 scope.
The certification covers adhesive bonding activities across product design, process design, manufacture, maintenance and repair at Artex production facility in Viborg.
For Artex, the certified scope primarily relates to comfort-related and non-structural bonding applications within railway interiors.
A controlled process – from material selection to finished component
Adhesive bonding is considered a special process, as the quality of a finished bond cannot always be fully verified by inspecting the completed component alone. Quality therefore needs to be controlled throughout the entire process.
The EN 17460 certification verifies the organisation surrounding Artex Danmark’s bonding activities, including personnel qualifications, material and adhesive selection, purchasing and storage, preparation and bonding, process control, inspection, documentation and traceability.
For customers, this provides documented assurance that bonding activities are carried out using qualified personnel, approved materials and controlled processes.
Opening new opportunities within European rail
EN 17460 is recognised across the European railway industry and is required by Deutsche Bahn for relevant adhesive bonding activities.
Achieving the certification enables Artex to participate in projects where EN 17460 certification is a contractual or supplier requirement and further strengthens Artex’s position within the European rail market.
The certification follows approximately six months of preparation and implementation led by Anne Louise Jackson and Philip Koue Axelsen.
As part of the process, Anne Louise also completed the European Adhesive Specialist (EAS) qualification at Fraunhofer IFAM in Bremen, providing the specialist competence required to coordinate and supervise adhesive bonding activities at Artex Danmark.
The EN 17460 Class A3 certification is valid until 24 August 2029.
